Reminiscences of a Romance

The red orb in the sky, once bright, is falling

Descending to where sky and sea meet

And the voice of sea and dying sun is calling

For me to rest awhile my wandering feet

So I pause, raise my tired head and gaze

And see endless shoreline stretch on into blurry haze

As my eyes fall on a small flower in the sand, half-buried

A shaft of sorrow and loneliness tears through my heart

Imprinted in my heart are those memories, still so vivid

Again I painfully ask myself, why did we part?

Oh, why am I watching this breathtaking sunset alone?

Why can’t we both be here, caressed by the breeze?

Twas here the seeds of our wonderful love were sown

Under the sinking sun’s rays and the sea-wind’s wheeze

In my mind I see again the image of your lovely face

Your blushes like the sky’s glow at the dawn of day

I long to be encompassed once more in your warm embrace

And though tis not how it is, I wish it was this way:

With us walking along the beach, hand in hand

The golden rays of sunset shimmering in your hair

So pleasurable to walk together, barefoot in the soft sand

Such a beautiful and passionate moment for us to share

Then as the sun disappears, to sit together under the old palm, side by side

And watch the twinkling stars materialize in the night skies

Holding each other close, serenaded by the lapping of the tide

A thousand silent love-words exchanged each time we gaze into each other’s eyes

There we can sink into the depths of our love

in each other’s presence, in our tender kisses

With none to witness our rapture but the pale moon above

And none to hear our whispers but the nightingale and cicadas

I miss you so much, it pains my heart

In love with you I would again fall

Come, let us no more part

Our love will conquer all
